Areca Palm

Areca Palm, aka Dypsis lutescens, also known as golden cane palm, yellow palm, or butterfly palm, is a native of Madagascar. It is hard to believe the areca palm was once an endangered species. The palms have smooth, sometimes golden trunks that are reminiscent of bamboo culms. It features feathery, arching fronds, each with up to 100 leaflets. These big, bold plants command attention.

When grown outdoors, they prefer part shade or constant filtered sunlight. When grown indoors, they do best with bright light like from a south or west facing window.
It thrives in bright indirect light and may last longer with some direct sunlight. But do not give it too much direct sun; the leaves will turn yellowish-green in direct sunlight.
They like the soil stays slightly moist in spring and summer, and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings in fall and winter. That's usually around every 3 - 4 days in spring and summer, and every 1 - 2 weeks during fall and winter. It may vary depending on your environment, adjust it accordingly.
They like a high humidity environment, give them a mist daily or as often as possible. Alternatively, you can put them around a humidifier. If the air is too dry, it is common for the leaf tips to turn brown.
Their fronds benefit from a micronutrient spray in summer. You can use a liquid houseplant fertilizer that contains micronutrients for this purpose. Make sure the product is labelled as safe for foliar feedings, and dilute it according to the label instructions. Do not feed areca palm plants in fall and winter.
The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.
