Pineapple, aka Ananas Comosus, is a tropical plant with edible fruit and the most economically significant plant in the family Bromeliaceae. The pineapple is indigenous to South America, where it has been cultivated for many centuries. Growing pineapples really is very simple. Because of their tough leaves, they lose little water through evaporation. They have small root systems like other bromeliads, and are not fussy about the quality or quantity of their soil. Due to this, they make excellent container grown plants, especially nice for those of us whose climate is less than tropical.

They love as much direct sun as possible. The best spot for them is where they can see the sun for the majority of the day.

When outdoor, keep them somewhere get the most amount of sun. When indoor, the minimum light requirement for them is 0 - 3 feet away from the nearest light source. A good bright place inside your home would be on the window sill or a stool that is right next to a window. During the warm months, they should be placed outdoors.

Pineapple Plant likes the soil to be consistently moist, but not soggy. Water thoroughly when the surface of the soil is dry. As with most bromeliads, never allow them to sit in water.

They will appreciate a good humidity level and won’t thrive in dry homes. Try to increase the humidity in the air around your pineapple plant using a pebble tray, grouping plants together, or even running a humidifier.

Once pineapple flowers you have to wait for another six months for the fruit to mature. Growing pineapples for fruit sure is a long term investment. The fruit is ready to pick when it starts to turn yellow.

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.
