Its lance shaped leaves curve downward and can turn beautiful reddish violet tones under strong lighting, giving the rosette a starfish like appearance. As the plant matures, it can reach an impressive size for a Pinguicula. During winter dormancy, it may form a partially subterranean, bulbous rosette similar to P. heterophylla, making it especially unique among tropical Pinguicula hybrids. At the beginning of the growing season, it produces sterile blue violet flowers.
