Dieffenbachia Sterling

Dieffenbachia Sterling is a stunning variety of Dieffenbachia with dark green leaves and a contrasting cream vein running down the center of each leaf. Native to the tropics of Central and South America, it has huge sometimes variegated leaves. The dieffenbachia's common name, dumb cane, comes from the fact that the liquid that drips from its leaves can cause a temporary loss of speech if ingested. Due to its toxic juices, this plant is not recommended for homes with small children or pets that chew on your plants!

They do not need to see the sun directly, as that can cause their leaves to burn. But filtered sunlight through blinds or sheer curtains is fine, most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight.
Although Dieffenbachia will tolerate lower light levels, they will thrive in medium to bright, indirect light. There will be plenty of new growth and the foliage will be perky and happy. They will do best either right next to, or up to 6 feet away from, an East, West, or South-facing window, making sure to have blinds or sheer curtains if there will be strong afternoon sun.
They need to be watered when the first two inches of soil are dry. That usually takes about 1 week in an average home environment. It may vary depending on your environment and light condition, but it's always safer to underwater or give the soil a check before you do the watering.
They like a little bit of humidity, give them a mist every 2 - 3 days. They can survive in a low humidity environment, but will thrive with higher humidity levels.
If you mist it once a week or so it will really help the health of the leaves. Or let it steam in the bathroom once in a while as you relax. It will thank you later!
The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.
