Drosera Capensis Alba, aka Drosera capensis ‘Albino’, commonly known as the White Flower Cape Sundew, is a captivating carnivorous plant distinguished by its all-over limey green colour and striking white flowers, contrasting with the typical pink flowers of its more common relative. This variant is slightly smaller than the Typical Form of Drosera capensis but shares the same intriguing carnivorous behaviour. The long, strap-like leaves are covered in sticky dew that glistens in sunlight, attracting and ensnaring insects. Once an insect is caught, the leaves slowly curl over the prey, forming a digestive pouch that efficiently breaks down the victim over a few days. After digestion, the leaf unfurls, ready to trap anew. This plant is not only a fascinating specimen for observation but also a practical one for controlling pests.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

Shipping options are available for plants and planters that are 7" or smaller to all provinces in Canada. We ship out on every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) for orders placed by Saturday midnight.

Winter safe packaging

We check the destination weather for each package to make sure they arrive safely with whatever it takes. Complimentary heat packs and insulations are included to protect your plants from cold damage when mailing in a box, if weather requires.

Drosera Capensis Alba enjoys some direct sun, but they'll also do well in bright, indirect light. It is best to place this plant somewhere where it will receive some nice morning sun, or a couple hours of afternoon sun, and then indirect light the rest of the day.

A nice bright place inside your home would be on the window sill or a stool that is right next to a window, either with or without blinds, depending on if the plant can handle sun. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: Keep evenly moist

Drosera Capensis Alba likes the soil to stay consistently moist, but not soaking wet. Give them water whenever just the surface of the soil is starting to get dry. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity: High

Drosera Capensis Alba likes a high humidity environment, give them a mist daily or as often as possible. Alternatively, you can put them around a humidifier. Although they won't die if they don't receive enough humidity, their leaves may have some dry, crunchy, or yellow edges.
