Juniper Bonsai, aka Juniperus Procumbens, is a lush, green, low growing miniature tree, and is the most popular plant used for bonsai. Growing a delicately pruned bonsai tree, a living work of art, stems from the Zen belief in creating an environment enveloped in peace and serenity.

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

As with all living things, no two plants are alike. There is some natural variation in size, shape, and characteristics. We make every effort to bring you a plant that as closely as possible matches the plant as it appears on our website, in the size you have chosen, and have a good potential to happily grow in your home.

Pro tips

Be careful not to water it too much, as the juniper roots don't like soggy soil. Before you water, the soil should dry slightly. Misting the tree should be done regularly as well. This bonsai usually needs a dormancy period, so during the winter, when it is growing less, place it somewhere that is a little cooler and receives a little less light than it was receiving previously.

Care Guide

How to take care of Juniper Bonsai

They enjoy some direct morning sun, but they'll also do well in bright, indirect light. It is best to place this plant somewhere where it will receive some nice morning sun and then bright indirect light the rest of the day.

They will do best in bright light. A nice bright place inside your home would be on the window sill or a stool that is right next to a window, either with or without blinds, depending on if the plant can handle sun. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

They need to be watered when the top half of the soil is dry to the touch. That usually takes about 1 week in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions, but it's always safer to underwater or give the soil a check before you water again.

They like a high humidity environment, give them a mist daily or as often as possible. Alternatively, you can put them around a humidifier. Although they won't die if they don't receive enough humidity, their leaves may have some dry, crunchy, or yellow edges.

This plant is moderately toxic and can cause some adverse reactions when ingested so it is best to not let your pets eat it, which we advise for all plants in general. The severity of the reaction will depend on how much of the plant is ingested but, if you know your pet typically does not eat your plants, this plant will be suitable for your home.

This is a Juniper Bonsai, also known as Japanese Garden Juniper Bonsai or Juniperus Bonsai. To bonsai is to grow ornamental miniature or artificially dwarfed trees in shallow containers, using cultivation techniques to mimic the shape and scale of full-sized trees - it is an ancient Japanese art form. Although they are a relatively easy bonsai to care for, they do have some very specific needs and we also recommend keeping them outdoors for as much of the year as possible. Bring them outdoors after the last frost of the spring, and then back in once the temperatures begin to cool again. Transition your plant slowly, giving it time to adjust to the brighter light outdoors. A very important aspect of Juniper care is light as they require very bright light in order to survive and live happily. High light plants require sunlight to assume their full potential, which means they need at least 6 hours of direct, bright light a day. Juniper Bonsai are very picky with their humidity needs indoors so it is important to mist your plant at least once daily because their foliage may turn brittle otherwise - humidity trays are very common among Juniper owners!
