Alocasia Chantrieri, also known as Alocasia × chantrieri André, is a rare collector hybrid prized for its dramatic metallic foliage and beautifully sculpted form. A cross between Alocasia cuprea and Alocasia sanderiana, it combines the dark, reflective character of Cuprea with the elongated shape, prominent pale veins, and undulating margins of Sanderiana. Its large, arrow shaped leaves display deep green to bluish metallic tones above with rich brown to burgundy undersides, creating an elegant, almost holographic appearance as the light moves across the foliage.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

All of our plants are delivered by our human plant expert in person. We will send you a delivery confirmation once your delivery is scheduled. And you'll also get a text message with a tracking link when your plants are out for delivery and on arrival.

Shipping in a Box

All Provinces

All of our 7" and smaller size plants and planters are now available to ship in a box across all provinces in Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.**

We post our mails on Mondays(or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) using mixed carriers(Canada Post/UPS/FedEx), the cut off time is Saturday midnight, order placed after that will ship out on the Monday after, so please keep that in mind when you place your order. We do this to avoid the order sitting in a post office over the weekend, however, this may still happen from time to time. To prepare an order, we pack up the plants with great care, ensuring as much as possible that they will have a secure and smooth delivery. Once you receive your tracking link from Canada Post/UPS/FedEx, the delivery will all be based on their projected timelines.

Delivery Standards for Remote Areas

If the destination postal code is located in a remote area, and only Canada Post service the area(alternative options will shown at checkout if available), they may add up to 5 business days, in addition to the posted delivery time. Complimentary heat packs and insulations are included to protect your plants from cold damage if shipped in a box, if weather requires. Some stresses are expected, but with good light and proper watering, they will bounce back very soon.

Alocasia Chantrieri shows characteristics from both of its famous parents, the metallic, substantial foliage of Alocasia cuprea and the elongated shape, pale veins, and rippled margins of Alocasia sanderiana. Give it bright indirect light to enhance its dark, reflective colouring without scorching the leaves. Use a chunky, airy aroid mix that retains some moisture while allowing plenty of oxygen around the roots, and avoid letting the pot stay saturated. Keep temperatures warm and conditions consistent, as sudden cold, prolonged dryness, or overwatering can cause leaf loss. Older leaves may naturally decline as new ones emerge, and mature plants can produce offsets or corms around the base that can eventually be separated for propagation.

How to take care of Alocasia Chantrieri

Sun: Indirect

Alocasia Chantrieri should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Medium - Bright

Alocasia Chantrieri will thrive in bright light, but also can tolerate medium light. A good medium-light place in your home would be in the middle of a room that has a regular size window. They can be placed anywhere between the middle of the room and the window. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When half dry

Alocasia Chantrieri needs to be watered when the top half of the soil is dry to the touch. That usually takes about 1 week in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions, but it's always safer to underwater or give the soil a check before you water again. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity: High

Alocasia Chantrieri likes a high humidity environment, give them a mist daily or as often as possible. Alternatively, you can put them around a humidifier. Although they won't die if they don't receive enough humidity, their leaves may have some dry, crunchy, or yellow edges.

Pet Caution

Alocasia Chantrieri is moderately toxic and can cause some adverse reactions when ingested so it is best to not let your pets eat it, which we advise for all plants in general. The severity of the reaction will depend on how much of the plant is ingested but, if you know your pet typically does not eat your plants, this plant will be suitable for your home.

Alocasia Chantrieri is a remarkable hybrid of Alocasia cuprea and Alocasia sanderiana, bringing together the metallic character of one parent with the elongated, architectural foliage of the other. Its large arrow-shaped leaves emerge in deep green with cool bluish highlights, while bright pale veins trace dramatically across the surface.

The foliage has a pillowy, almost dimensional quality, with sinuous, rippled margins that give each leaf movement and texture. Although reminiscent of Alocasia cuprea, the leaves are noticeably longer and more refined in shape. Turn them over and another layer of drama appears: rich dark brown undersides contrasted by warm brown petioles.
