Bedroom plants can add upright greenery beside a dresser, soft fronds near a window or a small leafy accent on a table. The best fit depends on daytime light, available space and how often you want to check the soil.
Compare a compact ZZ Zenzi with a taller Snake Plant, or choose the arching foliage of a Parlor Palm or Spider Plant. ZZ and Snake Plants prefer to dry fully between waterings; palms need checking sooner. Measure the space, check the selected size and consider pets before choosing a spot beside your bed.
Which plant is a good fit for a small bedroom?
ZZ Plant Zenzi has a compact, dense shape for a dresser or table where there is enough daylight. A Laurentii Snake Plant offers taller, upright leaves for a narrower floor space. For softer, arching foliage, compare a Parlor Palm. Check the selected size and allow room for leaves as well as the pot; a bedside surface should still be easy to use.
Can a bedroom plant live with the curtains closed?
Plants need usable light during the day. ZZ and Snake Plants tolerate lower light, but they will not thrive indefinitely in a dark room. Open curtains during daylight hours, place the plant where light reaches its leaves, or use a suitable grow light on a daytime schedule. A bedside lamp used briefly at night is not a dependable substitute.
Where should I put plants in a bedroom?
Choose a stable surface or floor position with suitable daylight, away from direct heating or air-conditioning blasts. Keep foliage clear of cold window glass and avoid trapping a plant between the glass and a closed curtain in winter. Leave room to reach the pot for watering, and keep trailing stems away from bedside paths and cords. Use a watertight outer pot or tray to protect furniture, then empty any collected water.
Which bedroom plants are suitable around cats and dogs?
Variegated Spider Plant and Parlor Palm are considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. ZZ, Snake Plant and Pothos need pet caution if chewed. Check the exact species, keep pots stable and place leaves and trailing stems out of reach. Non-toxic plants can still upset a pet’s stomach if eaten. Browse our pet-friendly plants for more options.
Will a bedroom plant help me sleep or clean the air?
A plant can be a pleasing part of a bedroom, but there is not a sound basis to promise that one will improve your sleep or purify the room. Results from sealed laboratory chambers do not directly predict what a few plants will do in a normal home. Choose plants for the foliage you enjoy and the conditions you can provide, while continuing normal ventilation and other air-quality measures.
