Variant

Monstera Deliciosa, aka the Swiss Cheese Plant or Monstera Plant, is famous for its quirky, natural leaf holes and deep splits. Native to the tropical forests of Central America, the Monstera plant has adapted to climb trees and spread its leaves wide to capture sunlight in its natural habitat. In indoor settings, Monstera Deliciosa adds a lush, tropical feel with its dramatic foliage, giving any interior space instant jungle vibes. Even if you weren’t into plants before, this monster can turn anyone into a plant-obsessed person, look at those leaves.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

As with all living things, no two plants are alike. There is some natural variation in size, shape, and characteristics. We make every effort to bring you a plant that as closely as possible matches the plant as it appears on our website, in the size you have chosen, and have a good potential to happily grow in your home.

Pro tips

Monstera Deliciosa are very easy to take care of, the secret is to not overwater them and pay attention to abnormal signs like yellow or falling leaves. Give your Monstera a sturdy moss pole or climbing support as it grows—its long aerial roots are a natural part of how it anchors itself. Young plants naturally have solid, heart-shaped leaves, so be patient while they mature and develop their signature splits and holes. Use a rich, well-draining potting mix, and wipe the broad leaves regularly with a damp cloth to remove dust. Repot in spring when the roots outgrow their container. When taking cuttings, include a section of stem with a node, the point where a leaf attaches; a leaf alone is not enough to grow a complete new plant.

Care Guide

How to take care of Monstera Deliciosa

Sun: Indirect

Monstera Deliciosa should not be in a position to see the sun directly, as it is too intense for them. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is fine and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Medium - Bright

Monstera Deliciosa will thrive in bright light, but also can tolerate medium light. A good medium-light place in your home would be in the middle of a room that has a regular size window. They can be placed anywhere between the middle of the room and the window. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When mostly dry

Monstera Deliciosa likes the soil to be relatively dry before the next watering. That usually takes about two weeks in an average home environment. It may vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions, but for them, it's always safer to underwater or water when you see signs of lack of water (i.e. droopy, floppy, or soft leaves). Water more often in the warmer months!

Humidity: Any

Monstera Deliciosa can live in any average home humidity condition and are fairly hardy. However, they will love you more if you give them some humidity.

Pet Caution

Monstera Deliciosa is moderately toxic and can cause some adverse reactions when ingested so it is best to not let your pets eat it, which we advise for all plants in general. The severity of the reaction will depend on how much of the plant is ingested but, if you know your pet typically does not eat your plants, this plant will be suitable for your home.

Plant Story

Introducing the Monstera Deliciosa, a bold and striking houseplant that teaches us the beauty of imperfection and supports those around us.

The Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant, features distinctive large leaves with captivating fenestrations. These unique holes allow light and water to pass through, enabling other plants beneath it to thrive. This remarkable trait is a powerful reminder that by embracing our imperfections can often uplift others.

To help your Monstera Deliciosa flourish, provide bright, indirect light to encourage the development of larger leaves and more intricate fenestrations. This stunning plant demonstrates how the right environment can foster growth and transformation in our own lives.

When it comes to watering, Monstera Deliciosa prefers to let its soil dry out almost completely between waterings. Practice mindfulness and balance as you care for your plant, remembering that, sometimes less is more, both in plant care and in life!

As your Monstera Deliciosa matures, it'll start to vine and climb. Support it with a moss pole, and let its aerial roots anchor to the pole or hang freely. Like a true friend, Monstera Deliciosa is there to climb with you, one leaf at a time.

Welcome the Monstera Deliciosa into your home, and let it inspire you with its symbolism of kindness, growth, and the beauty of imperfection. It's not just a plant; it's a powerful reminder that we can make a positive impact on those around us by embracing our own unique qualities and fostering a spirit of generosity.
