Philodendron Verrucosum, aka the Philodendron Verrucosum regular form, scientifically known as Philodendron verrucosum 'Incensi', also known as the Ecuador Philodendron, is a stunning climbing variety known for its luxurious and ornamental foliage. This philodendron showcases large, heart-shaped leaves with a velvety texture that gives them a rich, sumptuous look. The leaves are a vibrant medium green on the top with a contrasting red hue on the undersides, typical of many verrucosum varieties. The foliage is accentuated with deep green colour, prominent veined patterns, and distinctive silver-white markings along the veins, enhancing its visual appeal. The "Incensi" is not just a decorative addition but also a vigorous grower, making it a favourite among houseplant enthusiasts for its beauty and relatively easy care.

Care Guide

How to take care of Philodendron Verrucosum

Sun: Indirect

Philodendron Verrucosum should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Medium

Philodendron Verrucosum will do well in medium light but will grow faster with brighter light. A good medium-light place in your home would be in the middle of a room that has a regular size window. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When top quarter dry

Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry before watering Philodendron Verrucosum again. This usually takes about 3 - 4 days in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity: High

Philodendron Verrucosum likes a high humidity environment, give them a mist daily or as often as possible. Alternatively, you can put them around a humidifier. Although they won't die if they don't receive enough humidity, their leaves may have some dry, crunchy, or yellow edges.

Pet Caution

Philodendron Verrucosum is moderately toxic and can cause some adverse reactions when ingested so it is best to not let your pets eat it, which we advise for all plants in general. The severity of the reaction will depend on how much of the plant is ingested but, if you know your pet typically does not eat your plants, this plant will be suitable for your home.

Plant Story

Introducing the Philodendron Verrucosum, scientifically known as Philodendron verrucosum 'Incensi', a captivating and elegant variety of the Philodendron family, renowned for its luxurious velvety leaves and striking aesthetic. Commonly referred to as the Ecuador Philodendron, this plant is a splendid addition to any indoor garden, symbolizing lush growth, exotic beauty, and the depth of nature's artistry.

The Philodendron Verrucosum is celebrated for its large, heart-shaped leaves that possess a soft, velvety texture, enhancing its allure and tactile appeal. The leaves boast a rich, medium green color, creating a lush backdrop for the prominently veined patterns that are highlighted with silver-white markings. This contrast not only adds dramatic flair but also accentuates the intricate details of each leaf, making the 'Incensi' a standout specimen in any collection.

This plant is a vining climber, known for its ability to grow robustly under the right conditions. It thrives when provided with a support structure, such as a moss pole or trellis, which not only supports its climbing nature but also allows for an impressive display of its ornamental leaves.

Caring for the Philodendron Verrucosum involves creating an environment that encourages its tropical nature. It prefers bright, indirect light, which is crucial for maintaining the vibrancy of its leaves and promoting healthy growth. Direct sunlight should be avoided as it can burn the delicate velvety foliage.

Watering should be consistent, keeping the soil moist but well-drained. Overwatering can lead to root issues, so ensuring proper drainage and allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings is key. High humidity levels are also beneficial, mimicking its native rainforest habitat. This can be achieved through regular misting, using a humidifier, or placing the plant in a naturally humid area.

As the Philodendron Verrucosum matures, it can become a magnificent focal point of greenery, bringing a touch of the Ecuadorian forest into your home. Its striking leaves continue to develop in size and color intensity, reinforcing its presence as a true gem among indoor plants.

Welcome the Philodendron Verrucosum into your home, and let it be a living emblem of tropical lushness, artistic expression in leaf patterning, and the enduring charm of climbing plants. It’s not just a plant; it’s an ongoing celebration of the wonders of the botanical world, inviting you to cherish and engage with nature’s intricate beauty every day.
