Variant

Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan, is a beautiful Mexican Butterwort hybrid combining two distinctive and highly collectible parent forms, Pinguicula Agnata ‘El Lobo’ and Pinguicula moranensis ‘Huahuapan’. Its broad, sticky green leaves form a lush rosette that can develop attractive pink, red, or purple edging under strong light, while delicate pale pink to lavender flowers rise gracefully above the foliage. Vigorous, colourful, and easy to appreciate even when not in bloom, this hybrid makes an excellent choice for both new and experienced Pinguicula growers.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

Pro tips

Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan naturally changes its appearance throughout the year, so let the plant itself tell you when to adjust your watering. During active growth, the broad leaves become sticky and glisten with insect-catching glands; when smaller, thicker, non-carnivorous leaves begin forming, gradually reduce moisture rather than trying to keep it in its summer form. Grow it in a loose, mineral-rich Mexican Butterwort mix with excellent drainage instead of regular houseplant soil. Avoid rubbing or wiping the leaves, as this removes the delicate sticky glands used to trap fungus gnats and other tiny insects. Give it strong light for the best colour, and remember that the shallow root system makes these plants surprisingly easy to dislodge when handling or repotting.

Care Guide

How to take care of Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan

Sun: Indirect

Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Bright

Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan will do best in bright light. A nice bright place inside your home would be on a window sill or close to a bright window, or beneath a strong grow light. Remember that plants will grow and colour based on how much light they receive. Bright conditions encourage compact growth, strong carnivorous leaves, and the best purple tones.

Water: When top quarter dry

Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry before watering Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan again. This usually takes about 3 - 4 days in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity: Medium

Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan will do well in average humidity environments but will appreciate a little bit of humidity if provided, give them a mist daily or get a humidifier.

Pet Friendly

You can feel comfortable having Pinguicula Agnata El Lobo x Huahuapan around your home in the potential case where your pet feels like nibbling on it. However, we typically recommend keeping your pets from eating any of your houseplants.

Plant Story

Introducing the Pinguicula agnata ‘El Lobo’ × ‘Huahuapan,’ a refined and vigorous Mexican butterwort hybrid that celebrates balance, contrast, and the beauty of combining distinct strengths. With its compact rosette and delicate pink-to-lavender blooms, it symbolizes harmony, a reminder that two very different qualities can come together to create something uniquely graceful.

This special hybrid brings together Pinguicula agnata ‘El Lobo’ and Pinguicula moranensis ‘Huahuapan,’ two prized Mexican butterwort cultivars known for their ornamental appeal and dependable growth. ‘El Lobo’ is admired for its red-to-purple leaf margins and pure white flowers, while ‘Huahuapan’ contributes compact growth and elegant lilac-purple blooms.

The resulting foliage is lush, compact, and expressive, carrying the vigour of both parents. Depending on light and growing conditions, the rosette may develop subtle coloration around the leaf margins, adding depth to the fresh green foliage and giving the plant a polished, collector-worthy appearance.

Its flowers can appear in soft shades of pale pink to lavender, combining the gentleness of ‘El Lobo’ with the lilac character of ‘Huahuapan.’ The blooms rise neatly above the rosette, bringing a delicate contrast to the carnivorous leaves below and adding long-lasting charm throughout the growing season.

Thriving in bright, indirect to strong filtered light with mineral-free water and an airy, well-draining carnivorous plant medium, Pinguicula agnata ‘El Lobo’ × ‘Huahuapan’ is both resilient and rewarding. Its vigorous nature makes it approachable for newer growers while still offering enough character to appeal to experienced collectors.

Welcome the Pinguicula agnata ‘El Lobo’ × ‘Huahuapan’ into your collection, and let it inspire you with its symbolism of harmony, resilience, and blended beauty. It’s not just a plant; it’s a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful expression comes from bringing two distinct strengths together.
