Pinguicula Gypsicola x Sethos, is a vigorous Mexican Butterwort hybrid admired for its unusual foliage and beautiful colour response. Its lush green carnivorous leaves form an open rosette with narrow, elongated growth inherited from Pinguicula gypsicola, while the tips and outer portions can develop translucent blushes of pink to rosy purple under strong light. Combining the sculptural character of Gypsicola with the colourful, adaptable growth of Pinguicula Sethos, this distinctive hybrid is both eye catching and surprisingly approachable for carnivorous plant collectors.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

All of our plants are delivered by our human plant expert in person. We will send you a delivery confirmation once your delivery is scheduled. And you'll also get a text message with a tracking link when your plants are out for delivery and on arrival.

All of our 7" and smaller size plants and planters are now available to ship in a box across all provinces in Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.**

We post our mails on Mondays(or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) using mixed carriers(Canada Post/UPS/FedEx), the cut off time is Saturday midnight, order placed after that will ship out on the Monday after, so please keep that in mind when you place your order. We do this to avoid the order sitting in a post office over the weekend, however, this may still happen from time to time. To prepare an order, we pack up the plants with great care, ensuring as much as possible that they will have a secure and smooth delivery. Once you receive your tracking link from Canada Post/UPS/FedEx, the delivery will all be based on their projected timelines.

Delivery Standards for Remote Areas

If the destination postal code is located in a remote area, and only Canada Post service the area(alternative options will shown at checkout if available), they may add up to 5 business days, in addition to the posted delivery time. Pinguicula Gypsicola x Sethos combines one of the more unusual Mexican Butterwort species with a famously vigorous cultivar, giving it a fascinating seasonal transformation. During active growth, expect longer, sticky carnivorous leaves that trap tiny insects such as fungus gnats; as conditions shift, the plant may replace them with a much smaller, tighter succulent rosette. This change is normal, so reduce watering when the succulent growth appears rather than trying to force the plant to remain wet year-round. Grow it in a loose, mineral-rich Mexican Butterwort mix with excellent drainage, P. gypsicola naturally grows as a lithophyte and particularly appreciates mineral-based conditions. Strong light encourages pink coloration, while the sticky leaves should be handled as little as possible, so their delicate insect-catching glands remain intact.

Sun: Indirect

Pinguicula Gypsicola x Sethos should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Bright

Pinguicula Gypsicola x Sethos will do best in bright light. A nice bright place inside your home would be on a window sill or close to a bright window, or beneath a strong grow light. Remember that plants will grow and colour based on how much light they receive. Bright conditions encourage compact growth, strong carnivorous leaves, and the best purple tones.

Water: When top quarter dry

Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry before watering Pinguicula Gypsicola x Sethos again. This usually takes about 3 - 4 days in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
