Our Pinguicula Mix is specially formulated for Mexican Pinguicula (Butterworts) and their hybrids, providing the airy, fast draining conditions these carnivorous plants prefer. Made with approximately 30% Sphagnum Peat Moss and 70% Perlite, Pumice, Lava Rock, and Horticultural Sand, this gritty blend combines light moisture retention with excellent drainage and airflow around the delicate root system. The Sphagnum Peat Moss holds enough moisture to keep roots lightly hydrated, while the high proportion of mineral aggregates helps prevent the mix from staying overly wet or compacted. Use it straight from the bag for most Mexican Pinguicula and hybrids, adjusting watering according to the species and season. For best results, use low mineral water such as rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis water. This mix is not intended for wetter growing Pinguicula, such as Pinguicula primuliflora, which generally prefer a more consistently moist, moisture retentive medium.
