Sansevieria Francisii Spiky, botanically known as Sansevieria francisii, also known as the Spiky Snake Plant, is a rare Kenyan succulent prized for its unusual stacked, architectural growth. Its thick, cylindrical leaves grow in tight spiraling rows along an upright stem, displaying dark green colouring, subtle grey green crossbanding, and sharply pointed tips. As the stem grows longer and begins to lean under its own weight, the plant produces distinctive above ground stolons or “walking legs” that eventually form new plants, giving this compact Sansevieria an especially fascinating growth habit.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

All of our plants are delivered by our human plant expert in person. We will send you a delivery confirmation once your delivery is scheduled. And you'll also get a text message with a tracking link when your plants are out for delivery and on arrival.

Shipping in a Box

All of our 7" and smaller size plants and planters are now available to ship in a box across all provinces in Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.**

We post our mails on Mondays(or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday) using mixed carriers(Canada Post/UPS/FedEx), the cut off time is Saturday midnight, order placed after that will ship out on the Monday after, so please keep that in mind when you place your order. We do this to avoid the order sitting in a post office over the weekend, however, this may still happen from time to time. To prepare an order, we pack up the plants with great care, ensuring as much as possible that they will have a secure and smooth delivery. Once you receive your tracking link from Canada Post/UPS/FedEx, the delivery will all be based on their projected timelines.

Delivery Standards for Remote Areas

If the destination postal code is located in a remote area, and only Canada Post service the area(alternative options will shown at checkout if available), they may add up to 5 business days, in addition to the posted delivery time. Complimentary heat packs and insulations are included to protect your plants from cold damage if shipped in a box, if weather requires. Some stresses are expected, but with good light and proper watering, they will bounce back very soon.

Sansevieria Francisii Spiky is a slow growing, drought tolerant plant that performs best when its roots are kept on the dry side. Use a very well draining cactus or succulent mix and a pot with a drainage hole, as prolonged moisture around the roots can quickly lead to rot. One of its most fascinating characteristics appears as it matures: the stem continues producing tightly packed rows of leaves until it eventually bends or leans, then sends out long stolons from the base or between the leaves. These unusual “walking legs” are completely normal and eventually produce new plantlets, so avoid cutting them off if you want the plant to spread naturally. The pointed leaf tips can be surprisingly sharp, so handle mature plants carefully when repotting.

Sun: Indirect

Sansevieria Francisii Spiky should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Low

Sansevieria Francisii Spiky will do well in low light, but will grow faster with brighter light. A low light plant can pretty much survive anyplace inside your home as long as you have a window in the room. Remember, low light does not mean no light and plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When fully dry

Sansevieria Francisii Spiky likes the soil to be completely dry before the next watering. That usually takes about 4 weeks in an average home environment. It will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions, but for them, it's always safer to underwater or water when you see signs of lack of water (i.e. wrinkly or soft leaves)

Pet Caution

Sansevieria Francisii Spiky is moderately toxic and can cause some adverse reactions when ingested so it is best to not let your pets eat it, which we advise for all plants in general. The severity of the reaction will depend on how much of the plant is ingested but, if you know your pet typically does not eat your plants, this plant will be suitable for your home.
