Variant

Spider Plant Reverse, aka Reverse Variegated Spider Plant, scientifically known as Chlorophytum Comosum 'Reverse Variegatum', is a striking variant of the classic Spider Plant. It is cherished for its unique, arching foliage that showcases a beautiful colour inversion compared to the traditional Spider Plant. The leaves are green with white or yellowish margins, creating a vivid contrast that adds visual interest and brightness to indoor spaces. It is considered one of the most adaptable of houseplants and the easiest to grow. It can grow in a wide range of conditions and suffers from very few problems, other than brown tips. This resilient and easy-to-care-for plant is not only an aesthetic addition to the home but also known for its air-purifying qualities. According to a NASA clean air study, spider plants can filter formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene from the air. Making it a popular choice among houseplant enthusiasts.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

As with all living things, no two plants are alike. There is some natural variation in size, shape, and characteristics. We make every effort to bring you a plant that as closely as possible matches the plant as it appears on our website, in the size you have chosen, and have a good potential to happily grow in your home.

Pro tips

Feed Spider Plant Reverse with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring through early fall), or follow the instructions provided on the fertilizer packaging. Pruning is rarely necessary, but trimming brown tips can keep the plant looking neat. This is often the result of either lower humidity or fluoride found in water, which causes a salt buildup in the soil. If this is the case, allow the water to sit out overnight before watering, or use rain or distilled water. Spider Plants are known for producing baby plants or "spiderettes" that can be propagated easily by placing them in soil or water until they root.

Care Guide

How to take care of Spider Plant Reverse

Sun: Indirect

Spider Plant Reverse should not be in a position to see the sun directly, although early morning or late evening sun is fine. Filtered sunlight through a sheer curtain is best and most homes are comprised primarily of indirect sunlight. The best spot for them is where they do not see the sun during the majority of the day but still get bright, indirect light.

Light: Medium - Low

Spider Plant Reverse will thrive in medium to bright light, but also can tolerate low light. A good medium-light place in your home would be in the middle of a room that has a regular size window. They can be placed almost anywhere in the room but remember, plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When mostly dry

Spider Plant Reverse likes the soil to be relatively dry before the next watering. That usually takes about two weeks in an average home environment. It may vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions, but for them, it's always safer to underwater or water when you see signs of lack of water (i.e. droopy, floppy, or soft leaves). Water more often in the warmer months!

Humidity: Any

Spider Plant Reverse can live in any average home humidity condition and is fairly hardy.

Pet Friendly

You can feel comfortable having Spider Plant Reverse around your home in the potential case where your pet feels like nibbling on it. However, we typically recommend keeping your pets from eating any of your houseplants.

Plant Story

Introducing the Spider Plant Reverse, a captivating variant of the classic and beloved Spider Plant, celebrated not just for its air-purifying qualities and ease of care but also as a symbol of vitality, adaptability, and the beauty of nurturing relationships.

The Spider Plant Reverse, scientifically known as Chlorophytum Comosum 'Variegatum', distinguishes itself with its unique foliage pattern. Unlike the more common Spider Plant, which features a green center stripe bordered by white, the 'Reverse' variety showcases the opposite pattern: leaves with striking white centers flanked by vibrant green edges. This inversion of colour adds a fresh twist to a familiar favourite, making the 'Reverse' a standout in any plant collection.

Caring for the Spider Plant Reverse involves providing it with bright, indirect light, which helps maintain the vibrancy of its variegated leaves and promotes healthy growth. This plant thrives under gentle conditions, reminding us that growth and beauty often flourish in nurturing and supportive environments.

Watering your Spider Plant Reverse should be consistent, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's important to find a balance that keeps the plant hydrated without overwhelming it. This practice teaches us the importance of moderation and attentiveness in providing care.

One of the most delightful aspects of the Spider Plant Reverse is its ability to produce baby spider plants, or "pups", which dangle from the mother plant on long, arching stems. These pups can be easily propagated, making the Spider Plant an emblem of generosity and the joy of sharing life with others.

As your Spider Plant Reverse matures and multiplies, it becomes not just a decorative element in your home but a living symbol of vitality, the interconnectedness of life, and the beauty of caring for and sharing with others.

Welcome the Spider Plant Reverse into your home, and let it serve as a daily reminder of the importance of adaptability, the strength found in nurturing relationships, and the simple joy of watching life grow and flourish around you. It's not just a plant; it's a testament to the enduring beauty and generosity of the natural world.
