Agave Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu, botanically known as Agave isthmensis ‘Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu’, also known as White Centered Thunder Queen, Mediopicta Alba, is an exceptionally rare miniature variegated Agave prized for its compact rosette and bold central striping. This Japanese selection comes from the dwarf butterfly Agave, Agave isthmensis, a species native to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in Oaxaca, Mexico. Its thick, very broad leaves are narrow at the base and widen toward rounded tips, with deeply scalloped margins, dark reddish brown teeth, and a sharp terminal spine. A creamy white stripe runs through the centre of each leaf, bordered by green to gray green margins. In stronger light, the foliage can become more silvery gray, while lower light keeps the green tones more pronounced. One of the smallest Agaves, this cultivar typically stays around 4–5 inches across and readily produces offsets, slowly forming a dense clump over time.

What to expect

The plant comes with a default nursery pot. The nursery pot is usually 0.5" - 1" smaller than stated to fit into the same size decorative pot. Washable Paper Planter Bags are sold separately.

Sun: Direct & Indirect

Agave Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu enjoys some direct sun, but they'll also do well in bright, indirect light. It is best to place this plant somewhere where it will receive some nice morning sun, or a couple hours of afternoon sun, and then indirect light the rest of the day.

Light: Bright

Agave Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu will do best in bright light. A nice bright place inside your home would be on the window sill or a stool that is right next to a window, either with or without blinds, depending on if the plant can handle sun. Remember that plants will grow based on how much light they receive.

Water: When fully dry

Agave Ohi Raijin Shiro Nakafu likes the soil to be completely dry before the next watering. This can take up to 4 weeks in an average home environment but it will vary depending on the time of year, your environment and lighting conditions. For them, it's always safer to underwater or water when you see signs of lack of water (i.e. wrinkly or soft leaves). Water a little more often in the warmer months.
