Scindapsus brings patterned foliage to shelves, hanging pots and climbing displays. The familiar Satin Pothos varieties range from Argyraeus with silver-speckled green leaves to Exotica with larger leaves and broader silver patches. Silvery Ann and Silver Hero offer other variations on the silver-and-green look.
For a different finish, compare the silvery sheen of Treubii Moonlight with deep green Jade Satin or Treubii Dark Form. Choose by leaf colour, available plant size and whether you want the vines to trail or climb. Patterns vary naturally, so use the product photos and description as a guide to the variety rather than an exact leaf-by-leaf match.
Is Scindapsus the same as Pothos?
Satin Pothos is a common name for Scindapsus pictus. It is related to, but belongs to a different genus from, Golden Pothos and other Epipremnum varieties. Treubii Moonlight is another Scindapsus species. Check the botanical name when comparing plants, or browse our Pothos collection for more trailing options.
How do the Scindapsus varieties differ?
Argyraeus has distinct silver speckles, while Exotica has larger leaves with broader silver areas. Silvery Ann has irregular silver patches, sometimes covering much of a leaf. Treubii Moonlight has thick leaves with a smoother silvery sheen. For less silver, compare Jade Satin with the darker foliage of Treubii Dark Form.
Should I let Scindapsus hang or give it a support?
Both work. Let the vines trail from a shelf or hanging pot, or guide them onto a trellis or pole for a more upright display. Leave room for the stems to lengthen and keep the foliage in good light as it grows. Treubii Moonlight grows relatively slowly, so choose an existing plant size you enjoy rather than expecting it to cover a support quickly.
What light and watering does Scindapsus need?
Bright, indirect light is a useful starting point; protect the foliage from harsh direct sun. Let the potting mix partly dry before watering, following the individual variety’s care details, then drain away excess water. A curled leaf is a reason to check the soil, not automatically add water: prolonged wetness as well as dryness can cause curling. Avoid keeping the roots continuously soggy.
Are Scindapsus plants safe for cats and dogs?
Scindapsus is not a suitable choice where pets can chew the foliage. The ASPCA lists Satin Pothos, Scindapsus pictus, as toxic to cats and dogs; chewing can cause irritation in the mouth. Keep vines out of reach as they grow, or choose from our pet-friendly plants if pet suitability is a priority.
