Peace lilies, or Spathiphyllum, combine glossy foliage with occasional white blooms. This collection includes classic green plants, broad-leaved Sensation and variegated varieties such as Domino and Jet Diamond. Choose by the space you have and the leaf pattern you enjoy, so your plant looks good between flowering periods too.
A smaller plant can suit a tabletop, while Sensation needs room for its large, ribbed leaves. Bright, indirect light is a good starting point, especially for variegated foliage and flowering. Peace lilies tolerate lower light, but they still need daylight or a grow light and regular checks of the potting mix.
How does Domino compare with green peace lily varieties?
Domino has white-streaked foliage, giving you pattern between flowering periods. Choose the classic green Peace Lily for a simpler leaf colour, or Sensation for larger, strongly ribbed leaves and a more substantial display. Jet Diamond is another option for silvery-white leaf markings.
Compare the selected dimensions and light requirements before choosing by colour. A bright indirect-light position is a useful starting point, particularly for variegated foliage and flowering. Patterned leaves do not mean the plant will be in bloom continuously or stay the size of its starter pot.
Will my peace lily flower all year?
Flowering is periodic, so expect times when the plant is mainly foliage. Bright, indirect light and a healthy, mature plant improve the chances of repeat blooms; low light and young age can limit flowering. The white part is a modified leaf called a spathe, which can turn green and then brown as it ages. A product photo showing flowers does not mean every plant will be in bloom on arrival.
Is a peace lily suitable for a low-light room?
It can tolerate lower light, but a bright position out of harsh direct sun generally supports better growth. Give variegated varieties such as Jessica and Jet Diamond a well-lit spot. A dark corner or windowless room needs supplemental lighting. Keep the plant away from cold drafts and heating or air-conditioning vents.
Should I wait until a peace lily droops before watering?
Check the potting mix regularly instead. Water when the upper layer has started to dry, then let excess water drain away. Aim for some moisture around the roots without keeping the pot soggy. Drooping can happen when a plant is thirsty, but if the mix is already wet, adding more water may make matters worse. Check moisture and drainage before deciding what it needs.
Are peace lilies safe around cats and dogs?
No. Peace lilies contain insoluble calcium oxalates that can irritate the mouth and cause drooling, vomiting or difficulty swallowing if chewed. They are different from true lilies, but they are still unsuitable for pets to eat. Keep them out of reach or explore our pet-friendly plants; contact your veterinarian if you suspect ingestion.
